In magic only the effect matters to the audience. Since they don't know anything about methods that is all they can care for. This is quite a dilemma, because often the methods to achieve those effects are more interesting than the effect itself. I call those bad magic tricks.

This probably is how Cathy got to be in my show. That brushed aside it actually deals with a real issue here. Often we magicians do something to our audience that is not good for them We embarrass them with a joke, we scare them with a spider or actually make them think that we ripped apart their money.

Aside from the meanness of the joke it refers to a real issue here. Often I hear magicians complain that the audience declined the offer to be shown some magic. This often hurts the magician. But often those magicians fail to understand that sometimes people really do not want to see any magic.
